Tricking: Start by learning the kip up

The Kip Up sometimes refered to as the chinese get up is often seen in movies, where actors are on the ground in a fight and need to get up quickly.

This trick isn't very difficult it may seem so at the time but its all practice. You don't need to be especially light or strong to do this trick is mainly in the practice you will get the feel for it eventually.

The kip up is for many people the very first trick they learn, its quite fun to do as well.

Kip Up tutorial (WMV, 2.5 MB, Disclaimer )

How to do a Kip up
  • First watch the video
  • Ok so your lying on your back, roll backwards, rolling on your back which is kinda curved, bring your legs back with you bend them a little place your hands back over your shoulders and plant them on the ground.
  • Now kick up with your legs and kind of roll them so they land down where your butt was when you have kicked up and are getting to the peak of the hieght with your legs push off with your hands which should throw your upper body upwards.
  • Move your center of balance forwards so the momentum created by your legs and arms throws you up.

Tips
  • Try this on a trampoline first, if you don't own a trampoline a bed is fine just something springy and soft
  • This trick is a balance between kicking up and kicking out a common mistake is that most people kick out to far instead of up, with a little practice you should find the right balance.
  • Bring your legs into your chest on the roll back and really kick hard up and with your legs try do a semi circular motion.
